Holiday Potlucks & Pink Fluff

Office Party Tip–  don’t get sucked into trying, or being force fed, other people’s favorite holiday dish!!!

Why do people think I need to make their favorite dish mine? Don’t I have enough of my own favorite things to eat? Don’t I have enough red light foods? Do I really have to comply and eat theirs?

A few years ago, I bought a magic holiday hat! A strawberry hat! Yes, just like this foto (ok I don’t have the booties…yet!) Yes it’s a knit hat that looks like a strawberry! I have already braved my first potluck in my new knit strawberry hat–it was my magic shield against the holiday favorite family recipes of others. I ate before I went, I ate after I went, I worked the room and talked to everyone….we talked about my fancy hat! You just can’t sabotage someone wearing a strawberry hat! That would just be plain mean. With no hunger, the hat on my head and water bottle in hand…I have braved & entered many International Holiday Potluck battlegrounds.

Years ago a dear coworker ((who, btw, had gastric bypass surgery and never did reach her goal weight)), chased me down during a potluck and said “Oh Michele, Oh Michele, you have to try my Pink Fluff”.  I felt instantly like there was a hidden camera somewhere and I swear I heard that horror movie suspense music.
I was like “Did she just say that to me? Am I in a sitcom?”
How can you ask a person wearing a strawberry hat to eat a pink fluff pie???
The strawberry hat was my magic shield…LOL

I knew INSTANTLY that this was PERFECT material for engineering wellness. I laughed so hard and I followed her over to the pink fluff pie table and had her cut me a piece and thanked her. After all it was pink and pretty and all. Like a toy. I try not to eat food that looks like toys.

Was that the funnest thing to happen to me this month…probably!
Did I have a great time? YES! Did I need to eat the pink fluff to completely enjoy the experience? NOPE! ew!! LOL

I’m always on guard…still waiting to see those horrific marshmallow covered corn flake holly leaf cookies show up—the ones that look like plastic mistletoe, with the cinnamon candy berry things…….bleck.

BE PICKY.
